The CID has sought another five days of custody of the TDP chief, alleging that the former chief minister did not cooperate during the questioning in two-day CID custody in the skill development programme case and they need to interrogate him further to unearth various other details of the alleged scam.

The court has sent Naidu to judicial custody till October 5 after his CID custody ended on September 24.

The court had earlier sent Naidu to two days of CID custody (September 2w3, 24) in the Andhra Pradesh skill development program case and it had asked the CID officials to interrogate him at the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison, where the former Chief Minister is currently lodged.

The court had sent Naidu to judicial custody till October 5 after his CID custody ended on September 24.

Special Public Prosecutor YN Vivekananda, representing the CID, told news agency PTI that the court has posted these matters to Tuesday to hear them together.

“We insisted that our police custody petition should be heard as well. In that backdrop, the court said it will hear both the custody and bail petitions together tomorrow (Tuesday) and then pass orders,” PTI quoted Vivekananda as saying.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday dismissed Naidu’s plea seeking to quash the First Information Report (FIR) against him in the skill development case.

Naidu challenged the High Court order in the Supreme Court on Saturday and his counsel mentioned the case before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud for urgent hearing.

“There is an urgency. The gentleman is in custody. This relates to state of Andhra Pradesh where opposition has been curbed by arresting this gentleman,” senior advocate Sidharth Luthra told the bench.

The top court, however, asked Luthra to come tomorrow after his plea is listed for oral mentioning.

“Come tomorrow in the mentioning list,” CJI Chandrachud told Luthra.

The TDP chief was arrested on September 9 in the Andhra Pradesh skill development program case.
