AAP leader Sanjay Singh’s residence raided by Enforcement Directorate in Delhi excise policy case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday morning conducted searches at the residence of Rajya Sabha member and Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh in the national capital in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

Visuals from the spot showed ED officials stationed at Singh’s residence in the national capital. The federal agency is probing the case over charges of money laundering.

Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who was also the then excise minister, was arrested by the CBI in February in connection with the case and has been lodged in prison ever since. The case was first lodged by the CBI and the ED was brought in to investigate the money laundering angle. TV9 Bharatvarash reported that the searches on Singh have been ongoing for the past one hour.

It is alleged the liquor licences granted to traders under the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22  allowed cartelisation and favoured certain dealers in exchange for bribes. The AAP has strongly refuted the charge. Following the allegations, the policy was scrapped by the Arvind Kejriwal government and a CBI probe was recommended by the Delhi lieutenant governor.

AAP hits out at PM Modi after ED raid

SIngh’s Aam Aadmi Party called the searches a result of him being vocal about the Adani-Hindenburg row and questioning the Prime Minister’s silence on it.

“The ED raid is a result of Sanjay Singh being vocal about the Adani issue and the black money invested in his company. Neither they (ED) found anything earlier, nor they will find anything today. None of us is afraid,” party spokesperson Reena Gupta said. The party also shared a picture of Sanjay Singh standing alongside a banner put up on his house entrance, saying “ED is welcome to a fakeer’s (pauper) house”.
