Berhampur, 7/11 (Abhijit Kar): Health experts have expressed fear that the number of cancer patients may increase further in the next few years if this trend continues along with changes in lifestyle and irregular eating habits. This can put a huge strain on health services. Dr. Debanand Das, a social worker and face cancer patient, has called upon everyone to take conscious steps to prevent cancer by taking into consideration its dangers. Cancer awareness among the general public can lead to a healthy life and timely cancer prevention and treatment. National Cancer Awareness Day is observed on November 7 every year to raise awareness about cancer detection, prevention and treatment. Even though the exact cause of cancer is not known yet, many factors are believed to cause this disease.

Dr. Das said that the prevalence of the disease is increasing due to lack of awareness while there are many factors including urban lifestyle, adulterated food, oily and fatty food, and drug consumption. There are more than 100 types of cancer, but oral cavity, uterus, blood, lung, kidney, anus, bone, skin, prostate, breast and brain cancer are the most common. Symptoms include sores that do not dry for more than two weeks, swelling and deafness, difficulty in opening the mouth, difficulty in swallowing food, white and red spots in the mouth, mouth ulcers, sudden throat collapse, untimely bleeding in women, abdominal pain. Dr. Dash expressed the opinion that in case of bleeding from the anus, it is necessary to immediately consult a doctor for treatment. If the disease is detected early, the chance of recovery is 80-90 percent. It was advised not to drink, gutkha, gudakhu, bidi and cigarettes at all. Tobacco contains more than 7,000 toxic substances, of which about 60 substances cause cancer, said social worker and mouth cancer patient Dr. Debanand Das expressed his opinion.
