FIR against Shiv Sena MP who made dean clean toilet at Nanded hospital

On Wednesday, an FIR was filed against Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil after he had made the acting dean of the government hospital in Nanded to clean a washroom. Patil has been charged under multiple provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the Indian Penal Code, and the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act.

The Shiv Sena MP had forced the interim dean of the hospital, where 31 patients had passed away within a span of 48 hours, to personally attend to the cleaning of a unhygienic restroom and urinals. A video capturing this incident had gained widespread attention on social media.

Demanding action against the Sena MP Patil, the Maharashtra chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has warned of protests. In a press release, IMA said a memorandum has been submitted to CM Eknath Shinde demanding action against people responsible for treatment meted out to the acting dean.

IMA (Maharashtra) president Dr Ravindra Kute said the medical fraternity also wants a proper investigation into Nanded hospital deaths. The IMA also claimed the staff at the hospital are less considering the huge footfall of patients.
