Lightning Strike: 3 Women Die While Working In Farmland In Odisha’s Kalahandi

Dharamgarh: Three women died on the spot in an incident of a lightning strike that occurred today when they were working in farmland near Chitamunda village of Parla panchayat under Dharamgarh police limits in Kalahandi district.

The deceased women were identified as 50-year-olds Shanti Nimagachhia and Rupe Nimagachhia, and 17-year-old Lata Nimagachhia, all of whom belonged to Chitamunda village.

According to a police source, the trio was working in a farmland when the fatal mishap occurred. After a thundershower suddenly started, they immediately took shelter under a nearby tree to save themselves from getting drenched in rainwater leading to their untimely deaths.

On being informed about the incident by local sarpanch, Dharamgarh police reached the spot and seized the three bodies. Police sent the bodies for post-mortem and launched a probe.

“As the incident occurred in the evening, post-mortem could not be done after the fall of night. The three women belonged to one family,” a senior police official said.
